Duke of Edinburgh Awards Evening

Students celebrate their successes during the Duke of Edinburgh Award

A group of 39 current and ex-students from Jack Hunt School have celebrated their outstanding success in this year's Duke of Edinburgh Awards at Peterborough Town Hall. Some students received both their Bronze and Silver awards during a presentation evening at the Town Hall on Wednesday 15 January, alongside pupils from other schools from across the city.

To gain each award, the students have to complete four sections to demonstrate how they have helped in the local community, developed their skills and self-confidence, participated in physical activities and experienced the challenge of teamwork undertaking outdoor expeditions. Throughout the evening the students were presented with their awards by Darren Grigas, a very talented and inspiring local explorer. This was also the first time we had a group of SEND students undertaking an adapted expedition as well as working through their ASDAN awards in Learning Support. A special congratulations to this group of students.

Keith Pope, Year 11 said, "You can do anything if you try hard enough. I particularly enjoyed the expeditions as I had never been camping in my life before. To receive my award at the Town hall was also very special as I had never been into the Town Hall either!"

Mr O'Connor, the school's DofE Manager said, " I am extremely proud of all our students achievements as I know how hard all of our students work to gain these awards, especially under the stresses of a very busy school life. It was another very enjoyable evening at the Town Hall and great to see so many young people from around the city collecting their awards. This is also a great time to thank all the staff who give up their free time, evenings and weekends, to support our students too. I am very much looking forward to this year's expedition season, starting after Easter!

Congratulations again to all!

Mr O'Connor
