Language College
On Tuesday 17 th June 2003, Jack Hunt School Language College was officially opened by John Simpson, CBE. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, and are now approaching the end of our second designation.
We teach 4 languages during curriculum time, and offer another 8 languages to students and our local community as part of our extended schools provision.
We are lucky to have nearly 30 languages represented in our school community, and regular events such as Home Language Day, Bhangra Night and Language of the Day mean that we get to share and showcase these languages as often as we can.
Our recent achievements include:
- A pilot GCSE cohort studying Mandarin, linked to our Gifted and Talented partnership with the Golden Apple school in Shanghai.

- Supporting the teaching of languages in over fifty local primary schools.
- Chairing the Peterborough Primary Languages Steering group.
- Co-ordinating the Peterborough Secondary Languages Network.
- Leading and funding extension and enrichment activities for 10 local secondary schools, such as Communic8, our business and languages challenge, and Regarde, a French art history project for 6th formers.
- Our Language Leaders cohort delivering a Spanish taster day at Marshfields special school, leading salsa, craft and language activities for 50 students.
