We are extremely proud to share that Jack Hunt Academy has been featured in a new Nike film showcasing how our school is leading the way in creating inclusive, culturally sensitive PE experiences for Muslim girls.
The filming took place earlier this term and focused on how our PE department has developed an approach that celebrates diversity, builds confidence, and encourages all students to take part in sport — regardless of background, faith, or ability.
As a large, diverse school with over 70 languages spoken and 37% of students identifying as Muslim, Jack Hunt Academy is committed to ensuring every young person feels represented, respected, and supported. The Nike film shines a light on this ethos, highlighting the positive impact of listening to student voice and making thoughtful, inclusive changes to PE provision.
A key part of this success comes from the leadership of our female PE teacher and British Muslim role model, who uses her lived experience to help students feel understood and valued. Her presence has helped many girls overcome barriers to participation — whether that’s by allowing time to adjust hijabs, wearing skins under PE kits, or simply seeing someone who reflects their own values and passion for sport.
Through ongoing conversations, surveys, and the work of the student sports council, the PE department continually adapts activities to ensure all students can participate comfortably and confidently. This includes offering girls-only sessions, using culturally appropriate music in lessons, and providing flexibility during Ramadan.
The school’s Opening School Facilities funding has also supported the launch of female-only badminton sessions, providing a safe and welcoming environment for local women and girls — 88% of whom identify as Muslim.
The Nike film celebrates these efforts as an example of how inclusive practice not only removes barriers but also empowers students to lead, inspire, and thrive. Many of our students have now gone on to take on leadership roles in PE, supporting younger students and acting as positive role models within the school community.
Headteacher Mr Hebblethwaite said:
“We are thrilled that Nike chose to feature our school and recognise the incredible work of our staff and students. This project is about more than just sport — it’s about belonging, confidence, and creating opportunities for every young person to succeed.”
We are honoured that Nike recognised the culture of respect, integrity, and inclusivity that defines Jack Hunt Academy. The film is a celebration of our students’ voices, our staff’s commitment, and the power of community in shaping positive change.
