Jack Hunt Academy Teacher Wins National Award for Inclusive Football

We are incredibly proud to announce that Hayley Jeal, PE teacher at Jack Hunt Academy, has been recognised with a national award for her outstanding work in making football accessible to SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) girls across Peterborough.

Hayley has developed a pioneering model of inclusive football that ensures every girl—regardless of confidence or ability—can enjoy the game in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. In partnership with Hunts FA and local schools, she created a 3v3 inflatable football festival series, designed to break down barriers to participation and inspire young girls to get involved in sport.

The festival series ran across four schools- Jack Hunt Academy, TDA, Stanground Academy, and Ormiston Bushfield Academy—giving girls aged 11–14 the chance to play football in a confidence-building, accessible format. The smaller 3v3 setup simplified play and focused on enjoyment, teamwork, and skill development.

The initiative also offered leadership opportunities for students from Jack Hunt’s Leadership Academy, who officiated and supported the events, gaining experience in delivering inclusive sport. Participants were even rewarded with Peterborough United match tickets to celebrate their achievements.

Reflecting on her award, Hayley said:

“I am very proud to receive this award. As the Girls’ Football Strategic Lead in Peterborough, I have been able to provide opportunities for girls with Special Educational Needs to take part in football. I think it is so important that all girls should have access to football and should have the chance to engage in football outside of school. The best part about running these events is seeing the girls with a smile on their faces and having fun. I am grateful for all the support I receive from other secondary schools across Peterborough to host these events and to be able to provide a number of festivals across the year. Going to St George’s Park to receive the award was a fantastic experience.”

In addition to receiving the award, Hayley presented her case study at a national conference, sharing her successful approach with other strategic leads across the country.

Hayley’s work is a replicable model of best practice, inspiring schools and organisations nationwide. We are immensely proud of her dedication and passion for ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to feel included, confident, and inspired through sport.
