CRIMINOLOGY

We aim for our students to develop an understanding of the types of crime that take place, how we decide which behaviour is criminal, how we explain why some people commit crime and how we can use different theories of criminality to explain this behaviour. We aim for our students to develop an in-depth understanding of criminal justice system, from the crime scene all the way to the courtroom and look at how social control is achieved within our society.

By the time students leave us, they will have developed the ability to complete project-based research and to present it; to collect, analyse and interpret data effectively; to construct well-informed and reasoned arguments substantiated by relevant evidence; to learn independently; and to work alongside others. As an Applied General qualification, our vision is to primarily prepare students for university study in related subjects, however, students will also apply their learning in vocational contexts linked to the criminal justice system, which also can prepare students for work in related fields. We cover the full WJEC/Eduqas specification, updated continuously to address content and apply skills in relation to up-to-date case studies, developments and issues in the criminal justice system
