Jack Hunt Comes Alive for European Day of Languages
European Day of Languages - Celebrating Language and Culture to Jack Hunt
On Friday 26th September, our school came alive with colour, culture, and creativity as we celebrated the European Day of Languages (EDOL). The Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department led an inspiring programme of events that highlighted the diversity of languages and cultures in our community.
The day featured a Global Bake Off, where students showcased their culinary skills with cakes and treats inspired by countries from around the world. A writing competition encouraged students to get creative in another language, while sixth form language students supported younger learners with their entries.
One of the standout moments was in the main hall, where Urdu students taught both language and dance to younger pupils. This interactive session was a huge success, full of fun, energy, and laughter. Another highlight was the hugely popular Language Karaoke.
The celebrations concluded with a lively salsa lesson led by our Spanish teacher, Mr. Mayacen, which gave staff the chance to join in the fun.
As part of the day, students also took part in the Languagenut global competition, where they put their language skills to the test against over 3,000 schools worldwide. Thanks to their hard work and determination, our Year 10s proudly secured a place in the global top 10 leaderboard—a fantastic achievement that reflects both their talent and commitment.
Throughout the day, the MFL department also organised a school-wide poster trail showcasing the different languages spoken or learned by teachers across the school. This interactive activity not only celebrated linguistic diversity but also encouraged students to see languages as part of daily life.
European Day of Languages 2025 was a fantastic success—an engaging, enjoyable, and educational experience for the whole school community. A huge thank you to the MFL department for making it such a memorable event!
