Jack Hunt Academy, in partnership with the Muslim Council of Peterborough and sponsored by GLADCA, (Gladstone Community District Association) is proud to announce a professional development session on Ramadan Awareness, taking place on Thursday, 5th February from 4pm to 5.30pm.
Following the success of last year’s session, which saw around 30 school staff from across Peterborough gain valuable insight into supporting students observing Ramadan, the Academy is once again providing this opportunity for local educators.
The session will be delivered by nationally acclaimed speaker Mr Maqsood Ahmed OBE, who will offer practical guidance on understanding the needs of students during Ramadan and strategies to support them effectively in the classroom. Attendees will also have the chance to engage in discussion, ask questions, and explore real-life scenarios.
The session will explore, what Ramadan is and why it is important, how fasting and daily routines may affect pupils, ways schools can provide inclusive and supportive environments, the wider values of empathy, respect, and understanding and challenge any myths between Faith / practice and culture.

Mr Jon Hebblethwaite, Head Teacher of Jack Hunt Academy in Peterborough
Mr Jon Hebblethwaite, Head Teacher of Jack Hunt Academy part of Keys Academies Trust said: “At Jack Hunt Academy, our values of hard work, integrity and kindness underpin everything we do. We are proud to work alongside the Muslim Council of Peterborough and GLADCA to offer this important professional development opportunity for educators across our city."
Mr Maqsood Ahmed OBE said: “Ramadan is a time focused on reflection, kindness, patience, and community. This session aims to support schools in understanding what Ramadan means for Muslim pupils and how these values can be recognised and respected within the school environment.”
This initiative reflects a shared commitment to inclusion and mutual respect across our school communities. By learning about important religious and cultural practices, schools can help ensure that all pupils feel valued and supported.
Mr Maqsood added. “I’m grateful to Jack Hunt Academy, the Muslim Council of Peterborough, and GLADCA for their leadership in making this initiative possible.”
Dr M. Nawaz, one of the organisers, commented: "This CPD session reflects our commitment to promoting inclusivity and understanding in our school communities.
