Above and Beyond - Children in need 2016

This term we are holding ‘Mini Big Finish’ fundraisers every week for different charities.  On our first week it was the turn of Kennedy house but last Friday was especially important for Brunel as it was Children in Need and Anti-Bullying Week too.

Brunel students got involved in this charity day but other houses joined in on the fun in cookery after school on Thursday. Students helped out making cakes and bakes. Some sixth form students went above and beyond helping out with the baking, organising the younger students. Sasha Wallace said “It went well, it was a lot of fun”.

Some of these tasty treats were: Jamie Oliver’s rocky road festive bars , Nigella’s cookies and cream fudge brownies, Mrs Treacy’s crispy squares, Old Granny’s Mars Bar rice crispy cakes, Hairy Bikers cupcakes, Tom Kerridge’s simple but delicious rice crispy cake. The staff were ordering these before they were even on sale so this was a really profitable venture.

The stalls did brilliantly on Friday. Miss Heads form BRHD kept selling all the way till 2pm raising around £40, all the students in her tutor helped out for 5 minutes, they made hot choc with marshmallows and cream. Miss Head said the day was “Hectic and busy” but she was surprised by how helpful all the students were, taking turns to make money for children in need. Another form BJDN helped by Miss Sandall had a stall selling all sorts, from cakes to knitted dolls. Miss Sandall said “it was great to see how well the students joined in” Miss Sandall also added that the form was “very enthusiastic

To raise money students donated £1 to to wear non-uniform or dress up as a superhero (sixth form).  Many students chose to wear blue in support of anti-bullying week and there was a competition to design an anti-bullying superhero mask too.

The running total for Children in Need at the end of the day was £934.91 but money is still coming in.
