Teacher''s Industrial Action - Thursday 30 June 2011

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Thursday 30 June 2011.

This action is not against the school itself but is part of national industrial action organised by these Trades Unions about changes to the pension schemes of their members.

Neither the Governing Body nor the Head teacher is legally allowed to close the school 'in sympathy' with the strike and we will not do so. However, our main concern is the safety of our students. A number of teachers at Jack Hunt School, who are members of the NUT or ATL, have decided to participate in the industrial action. We cannot ask other teachers to cover the classes of those who are taking industrial action; therefore, in view of the numbers involved in the industrial action, I will have to close the school to students for the day.

We would encourage students to spend the day wisely, working at home on the VLE.

Should you have cause to contact the school during the day all other staff, both teaching and support staff, will be at work.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to you and your family but I must ensure that when children and young people attend the school their well-being and safety is assured.

We must hope that the issues over which the industrial action has arisen are resolved as soon as possible.

The school will be open normally on Friday 1 July 2011.
