HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE

Over 1.5 million people work across over 350 different careers in the NHS. The workforce in social care is of a similar size. The care needs in this country are growing, making Health and Social Care a vital qualification for students to study.

Well educated

Our students will learn reflective practice that will be essential for their progression through careers in or out of Health and Social Care. This takes place through units where students learn how to support individuals through life events, as well as how to deliver creative and therapeutic activities. Communication skills including oracy, literacy and vocabulary development are explicitly taught as part of the curriculum. We encourage students to develop independence and pragmatism when problem-solving. At Key Stage 5, there is an emphasis on the scientific knowledge underpinning good health care, with students studying Anatomy and Physiology as part of their course.

Good character

Being of good character is of particular importance in Health and Social Care, due to the nature of working with vulnerable people. Through delivery of topics including Principles of Care (KS4 & 5), Supporting Individuals through Life Events (KS4), Person-centred approach to care (KS5) and Supporting People with Mental Health Conditions (KS5), students develop empathy and respect for others. They learn to understand the importance of taking a holistic approach when dealing with individuals, and the impacts that certain factors have on all areas of a person’s life.

Ready for ambitious next steps

Peterborough is a diverse and multicultural city, with many opportunities in Health and Social Care for our students. Students can explore apprenticeships, university degrees and NHS careers directly from studying the Level 1/2 and Level 3 qualifications in Health and Social Care that we offer at Jack Hunt Academy.

AMBITIONS & OUTCOMES

Good Character

Health & Social Care students are encouraged to embody empathy, integrity, and responsibility. Through exploration of ethical scenarios, person-centred approaches, and reflective practice, students develop the resilience, adaptability, and interpersonal skills required to work with diverse and vulnerable populations. Leadership, teamwork, and communication are central to the curriculum, fostering students who act with compassion and professionalism.

Ready for Ambitious Next Steps

Our curriculum ensures students are well-prepared for further education, apprenticeships, or employment in the care sector. They leave with the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding to succeed in real-world healthcare and social care environments, contributing positively to their communities and beyond.
